Anthony Samaniego

Anthony Samaniego is an American visual artist and photographer based in Los Angeles, California. Drawing inspiration from impressionism and surrealism, his current work reinterprets real-world objects into fluid, ethereal 3D visualisations.

After earning a BA in Economics from Cal State University Northridge, he worked as an analyst for Warner Brothers. 

Following an accident that required him to relearn how to walk, Anthony developed an interest in photography and taught himself various techniques. Initially focused on the LA skyline and nature, he later transitioned cinemagraphs and GIFs into 3D art. 

As a photographer, Anthony shoots with 35mm and medium format film. He prefers film for its aesthetic qualities, complexities, and imperfections, stating that the colours and depth of field are unmatched. Photography is essential to him—he feels odd if he doesn’t shoot for a week.

In ‘Quadriptych,’ Samaniego doesn’t consider his techniques as generative processes as he doesn't create artworks from code. Instead, he physically captures areas and objects, derives a point cloud from them, and then animates and distorts the point cloud through simulations. He completes the process by animating camera movements, emphasising that it’s a complex, labour-intensive method that relies heavily on his personal involvement.
